Offerings

for Study

Cello Lessons:

In cello lessons, you can expect that I will meet you where you are in your musical journey, whether you are studying for enrichment and exploration, coming to it later in life, or looking to have that extra push for auditions and competitions. Lesson instruction will focus on healthy playing in mind and body, with a well rounded understanding of everything that makes the music happen. More specifically, we will build techniques, understanding the physics of sound production and body weight distribution, that will allow for relaxed and sustainable music making. It is important that the student understands the how and why of what they do, so these concepts, as well as the practice strategies, will be a central focus. Additionally, the fundamentals of musical structure: rhythm, intonation, phrasing, style, etc. will be integrated within the lessons as we work through pieces. Scales, arpeggios, finger agility, shifting, etudes, and standard repertoire are a part of that which we will concentrate on.

Chamber Music Lessons:

Chamber music is the perfect opportunity to expand your knowledge and skills in a collaborative, social setting with other like minded players. Be it in a cello ensemble (duo, trio, quartet, etc.), a string ensemble (string trio, string quartet, etc.), or piano ensemble (sonata duo, piano trio, etc.), the growth possibilities are endless. During class, I work with players to understand the strategies of rehearsing, including such topics as function and role, balance, tuning techniques, group phrasing, ensemble, group pulse, and communication. Depending on the level of the players, pieces may be chosen from the standard repertoire or will be an engaging arrangement.
